On Saturday, July 27, Aquinas College alumnus Justin Raines was ordained to the priesthood by fellow Aquinas alumnus Bishop David R. Choby at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville. Father Justin Raines celebrated his first Mass later that day at the 5 p.m. Vigil Mass at the Cathedral.
Father Raines graduated Summa Cum Laude from Aquinas College in 2007 with a major in Theology and a minor in Philosophy. After graduation, he entered the seminary, studying two years at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio before moving to Rome to attend the Pontifical North American College. Father Raines has completed his Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology and will return to Nashville in June 2014 after completing his studies for a Licentiate in Sacred Theology.
Father Justin Raines grew up in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, about 20 miles east of Nashville, and converted to Catholicism in his late teens before entering Aquinas College. A fellow convert from the Nashville area, Terry McGowan, was also ordained alongside Justin. Father McGowan will teach Scripture at Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville and will be a priest in residence at St. Joseph Church in Madison.
Please join Aquinas College in prayers of thanksgiving for these great new priests.
