Learn Portrait Painting

Aquinas’ very own Sr. Mary Angelica will conduct a series of classes in the art of classic oil painting portraiture in Room 102 on Feb. 14, 21, 28, and March 5, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The class is open to all students, alumni, faculty, staff, and Year of Faith Society members.

The class does not include the painting supplies, which may be purchased locally, and may also be shared among the students. See the below list of supplies to get some idea of the costs involved, and send an email to Sr. Mary Angelica for inquiries or to register:  srmangelica@aquinascollege.edu.

Brushes

  • 1 sable bright or  (about size 12)                15.00
  • 2 or 3 brights, various sizes          (range $5-30)
  • 2 or 3 flats, various sizes                (range $5-30)
  • 1 or 2 rounds (make sure one is small and soft)  (range 5-10.00)
  • Luxury – 1 flibert style, 1 fan style (for scenery) – probably about 15.00 each

Other Items:

  • 1 8 oz can turpentine – about 10.00
  • 1 palette knife – about 10.00
  • Canvas or canvas board (about 16×24 for a small painting) – can be larger (about 5-6.00)
  • Palette  (can also use a piece of glass or heavy plastic, or paper, but  a prepared wood surface is the best)
  • Glass jar for the turpentine
  • Easel
  • Rags
  • Lava soap (?)
