Consider the Rock: Dominus Iesus on Jesus Christ and His Church
Sister Catherine Joseph, O.P.
Aquinas College

In August of 2000, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published the document Dominus Iesus. The document restated traditional teachings of the Catholic Church on "the kingdom of God, the kingdom of Christ, and the Church, and the subsistence of the one Church of Christ in the Catholic Church" (DI #4). Although the teachings contained in the document reiterate teachings found in Scripture and Tradition, reactions varied among both Catholics and members of non-Catholic religions. By analyzing both the document itself and the reactions to it, this lecture will demonstrate the undeniable need for the Church's clear and constant teaching on Christ and His Church.

Sister Catherine Joseph, O.P. holds a baccalaureate (S.T.B.), licentiate (S.T.L.), and doctorate (S.T.D.) in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas, the Angelicum, in Rome. She also has a M.Ed. in Administration from Marymount University, an M.A. in history from Middle Tennessee State University, and a B.A. in History from Christendom College. Sister Catherine Joseph came to the Dominican sisters 21 years ago. She is originally from Iowa, where she grew up with 11 siblings.
