Welcome to Aquinas College

A Letter from Sister Mary Peter, O.P.,
President of Aquinas College

Dear Friends,

As our current students continue their studies here at your college this fall, I want to take a moment to congratulate our newest alumni. My prayer for the 181 men and women who graduated last May is that they will take the education and values that they encountered here and be a force for good in all aspects of their lives.

During this new academic year, the administration, faculty, and staff have been taking a fresh look at the language of our mission statement in order to breathe new life into the values that we stand for. By consciously focusing on making the dignity of the human person tangible in our everyday interactions, we intend to ensure that we fulfill our mission to bring the message of salvation to bear on ethical, social, political, religious, and cultural issues.

This may seem obvious, but it is this sort of attention to the “little things” that makes the value of an Aquinas College education so apparent to our students, alumni, and the community. In fact, the College has even been nationally recognized—again! In September, the Cardinal Newman Society’s second edition of The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College once again praised Aquinas College as one of 21 institutions in North America who offer outstanding Catholic education.

As we continue to “transform lives and culture through truth and charity,” the Aquinas community has joined pro-life groups around the country in the 40 Days for Life campaign to end abortion. Since September 23, faculty, staff, and students have participated in Masses, devotions, and prayerful witness outside a local abortion facility. We are also making plans to send our students to the national March for Life in Washington, D.C., in January and are helping to sponsor the local Mass for Life for area high school students, also in January.

In the meantime, I hope that you will be able to join us for the annual Alumni Christmas Homecoming, which will be held on December 11, and the Alumni Mass and Brunch which will be held on January 24. These events provide a great opportunity for all of us to reconnect. Until then, be assured of my prayers for a joyous Christmas and blessed New Year.

In Christ,

Sister Mary Peter, O.P.
President
