Family Literacy Night 2026 — Aquinas College - Nashville, Tennessee

Family Literacy Night 2026

Posted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026

The School of Education Literacy Center at Aquinas College hosted the 7th annual Family Literacy Night on October 1, 2026. Many families were in attendance from local Catholic schools and the community. The Aquinas Center was filled with a variety of literacy stations led by volunteers, including local Catholic school teachers as well as current Aquinas College teacher candidates. Catholic schools represented by leading a literacy station included St. Henry, St. Matthew, Overbrook Catholic School, and Bishop Miles Classical Hybrid. Sister Cecilia Anne, President of Aquinas College, introduced the event, welcoming guests and participants, and Sister Marie Hannah, Dean of the School of Education opened the evening with a prayer. Leaders of each literacy station introduced themselves and described the books and activities available at their station. The theme for the Family Literacy Night this year was “Virtues in Picture Books” and literacy stations included Frog and Toad Are Friends and the virtue of friendship, Stone Soup and the virtue of liberality, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse and the virtue of affability, Little One Step and the virtue of perseverance, Peter Rabbit and the virtue of obedience, and The Thank You Letter and the virtue of gratitude, among others.

Family Literacy Night is an opportunity for local families to take a break from their busy schedules and simply delight in stories together. The families had the opportunity to rotate around the stations and engage in the various picture books and activities. A special treasure of the evening was that each child got to bring home a book from the book table.
