Former Aquinas College student Cameron Drury visited Aquinas College on September 8, 2021 to share copies of his new book with faculty and students. Cameron’s book The Cosmic Adventures of Captain Hob is a story about Wigglesworth, a pet ferret whose life is turned upside down as he becomes self-aware of his worth. The excerpt from the book jacket invites readers into “this heartwarming and hilarious tale, where we learn that while difficulty is a part of the journey, nothing should ever scare us from following our dreams.”

Cameron, who works in a corporate environment as an engineer, did not set out to be a writer. However, during the lockdown caused by the pandemic last year, Cameron spent time putting his imagination to good use as he started writing his first book. Cameron commented, “A year of pent up imagination resulted in writing this 47,000 word kooky and heartfelt adventure in less than one month.”  Since then, the book has been completed, published, and recorded as an audio book. Cameron shares that he found authorship a joy!

Cameron studied Philosophy at Aquinas from 2015 to 2017. “Cameron was kind, conscientious and extremely courteous,” recalled Aquinas professor Dr. Bill Smart. “He participated in all aspects of campus life, including social events and athletic competitions, and especially spiritual and liturgical opportunities. I always appreciated seeing his smiling face, because he was just so full of good will – I know that his classmates felt the same.”
