What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-informed approach to the religious formation of children developed by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi. Rooted in Scripture, liturgy, and the rich tradition of the Church, CGS helps children encounter God in a prayerful environment known as the atrium. Through hands-on materials, reflection, and wonder, children are invited to deepen their relationship with the Good Shepherd.
Why is this course residential?
The residential format is at the heart of this formation experience. Participants live, pray, study, and share meals together throughout the week, creating a rhythm of community and contemplation that reflects the spirit of the atrium itself. By stepping away from daily responsibilities and distractions, participants are able to engage more deeply with the content, develop meaningful relationships with fellow catechists, and experience the formation in a more integrated and transformative way.
Are meals and lodging included?
Yes. Participants stay at Siena Hall Conference Center on the Aquinas College campus, and all meals are included throughout the course. Comfortable accommodations, shared community life, and convenient access to formation sessions allow participants to focus fully on learning, prayer, and fellowship.
Can I attend as a commuter or day student?
These courses are designed as a fully immersive residential experience. Because much of the formation takes place through shared prayer, reflection, meals, and community life, residential participation is strongly encouraged. In rare circumstances, limited exceptions may be considered, but participants benefit most when they can fully participate in the complete rhythm of the week.
