Aquinas College: Rising to New Heights
Posted on Thursday, July 31, 2025

Aquinas College celebrated a major milestone on July 28, 2025, with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly installed elevator in the Aquinas Main building. The event brought together faculty, staff, and honored guests — including project benefactors and alumni.
The ceremony highlighted the elevator as a symbol of communion and community. “We gather today to celebrate the completion of something that may seem small in size, but is large in purpose: a new elevator,” said Sister Cecilia Anne, O.P., President of Aquinas College. “To a passerby, it might appear a simple upgrade. But to us, it is a quiet sign of care — a practical and thoughtful way of serving one another and strengthening the bonds of our Aquinas community.”
Mrs. Cynthia Buss addressed all present on behalf of the many donors who contributed to this project. Buss shared, “Today’s ribbon cutting is more than symbolic. It represents the ability to continue to build strong community here at Aquinas. And I’m proud to have played a small part in making this possible.” Mr. Paschal O’Dwyer, Chair of the Board Facilities Committee, thanked benefactors and vendors on behalf of the Board of Directors, commenting how “this elevator will serve countless sisters, students, faculty, and visitors for years to come.”
Following a prayer of blessing led by Dr. Bill Smart, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and inaugural elevator rides, guests enjoyed a light reception in Breen Hall.
The elevator project was made possible through the contributions of many benefactors and reflects a broader initiative to improve the facilities of the college.
“Let us remember that this ribbon-cutting is not merely the conclusion of a project, but a sign of ongoing renewal,” said Sister Cecilia Anne. “It reminds us that when we build together — across generations and vocations — we answer the call to be good stewards of the gifts we’ve been given.”
