CGS Intensive Residential Formation Courses: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)?
CGS is a Montessori-based religious formation developed by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi. CGS invites children into a living relationship with God through Scripture, liturgy, and hands-on materials in a prepared environment called the atrium.

Why is this course residential?
The residential format is a defining feature of this formation. Living, praying, studying, and sharing meals together creates an atmosphere of contemplation and community that closely reflects the life of the atrium. Participants consistently report that the depth of learning and spiritual growth is significantly enriched by being fully immersed without the distractions of daily responsibilities.

Are meals and lodging included?
Yes. Overnight accommodations at Siena Hall Conference Center, as well as all meals, are provided for the duration of the course. This allows participants to focus fully on the formation experience.
Can I attend as a commuter or day student?
This course is designed as a fully immersive residential experience, and commuter participation is strongly discouraged. While we recognize that local participants may be interested in commuting, the full benefits of CGS formation are best realized when participants are present for the entire rhythm of the week, including evenings and shared meals. Limited exceptions may be considered only in rare circumstances.
